Rhetoric Scene

GROUP 1 
Son: (Coming home from school)(In the kitchen of their house) Hey dad, how are you? I saw this BMW today and I really want that car. All my friends have fancy new cars, and I want that car.

Father: Son, you know I'm a teacher and I can't even afford the Mercedes I have myself. I can maybe get you a Toyota.

Son: Dad my GPA is 3.7 and i deserve it more than anyone else. Don't you think I deserve it?

Father: Well you do deserve it but would you please think about the Toyota and just let me know what you think.

(Exits kitchen)

Son: (Goes to sisters room)(acting sad)

Sister: What is wrong with you?

Son: All my friends have nice cars but me and dad doesn't want to get me the BMW.

Sister: I think you should talk to grandma so she could convince dad because she was able to convince grandpa to buy dad a car. 

Son: That sounds like a great idea

(Leaves sister room) 

Son:

(Goes into grandmas room)

Hey grandma how are you? Dad does not want to buy me a car even though I have a high GPA! Can you try to convince him please?

Grandmother: You need to get a job so you can buy the car yourself. 

Son: Dad got his first car and he did not work. You convinced grandpa on buying him his car. I promise you I am going to work but I need that car to transport. I will pay dad if he takes out loans.

Grandmother: I'm sorry darling but the BMW is really too expensive for you as your first car. And as a student you should pay more attention on your study but not your car. If you really want to work you can get a used car as transportation. After you have earn some money maybe you could talk to your dad again about getting a BMW.

Son: (leaves very angry)

(Enter sister’s room)

Grandmother doesn’t want to convince dad to buy me the car.

Sister: You need to show her that you are responsible and will pay dad back, that’s what I did to show my mom I was responsible and she trusted me and got me the car. 

Son: Okay I will try again.

(Leaves sisters room)

(Enters Grandmothers room)

Will you please convince him, I promise that I will get a job once I get my car and help my father out. 

Grandmother: Like Les Brown said, " If you take responsibility for yourself you will develop a hunger to accomplish your dreams." are you sure you will be able to do this?

Son: Yes grandma.

Grandma: Okay I will talk to him and do my best at convincing him.

Son: (Leaves the room with excitement)

Grandmother: (Enter kitchen) Son I really think you should take it into consideration to get Dhari the car. He is very responsible and I know he wont let you down.

Father: I'm aware of that mom. Well, you know that I didn't expect the consequences of having "my car." I think it's not enough for me to get him the money, unless he changes his mind into cheaper cars.

Grandmother: I think by getting him the expensive car, he will realize how hard life really is and how responsible he has to be by catching up with the payments onces he gets his job.

Father: Well then, in that case I might take some loans from the bank to get him the car.

(Both leave kitchen)

(A week later, father enters son’s room)

Father: Son, you deserve this car, but you should thank your grandma because she convinced me. Here are the keys. Be careful while driving, and if you want to thank me, you should get a good job to make me pleased.

Son: (EXCITED)

Thank you dad I will not disappoint you!
